What to expect
For 6 weeks from 5 August to 12 September we are exploring using paper to create effects and as a medium for stitch. We will create gorgeous textured and coloured papers, in a variety from art papers, photographic papers, book papers, wrapping papers and more. We will colour, distress, reassemble and stitch to make surfaces to use in your artworks. Begin by creating a folio of experimental samples, then combine your new skills with other materials and techniques such as stitching by hand and by machine to create a unique mixed media and textile artwork. The classes are led by Alysn Midgelow-Marsden, an internationally experienced artist and teacher. Anyone with an enthusiasm for textile and mixed media arts, from beginners, improvers and experienced alike are invited to book and join in with what Alysn warns ‘may become the start of an obsession’! You will learn to view almost anything as a creative tool, including a sewing machine and candles. You will learn using experimental, inclusive approaches, be guided in techniques and design skills and begin to develop your own personal style. Details of what you need to bring will be sent to you after you book, you will only need a few basics. Most materials and equipment are provided. Sessions will be held at the Rothesay Rooms in the East Coast Bays Community Rooms, Glen Road. Browns Bay. This a very spacious room giving plenty of space for us all to be creative. Once you have paid the fees are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. If there are less than 5 participants booked on the course 7 days before the start date Alysn reserves the right to cancel the sessions in which case you will be refunded.

Once you have confirmed your place by payment of full fees you have agreed to enter into a contract with Alysn Midgelow-Marsden where your fees are non-refundable nor interchangeable. If you begin this course then decide not to continue you will not receive a refund. If you are unable to attend a class due to illness, or for personal reasons, you will not be entitled to a refund for sessions missed. If the group drops below 5 participants, the course will be cancelled, and your fees will be refunded if you are not cancelling. In the event that Alysn Midgelow-Marsden is unable to deliver one or more of the sessions due to illness, every effort will be made to deliver a ‘make-up’ session. Should Aotearoa or Auckland be in a Covid-19 protection framework situation that prevents group meetings of this type and size, sessions of this course will be run on Zoom during that time at the published class times.
