Let’s take inspiration from geological layers, geodes and agates; the variety of patterns and layers in these give us great pattern sources and a chance to get to grips with metal, metal mesh and some straightforward design techniques. We will use fine metal, metal fabrics, paint, fibres, fabrics and papers combined with stitch. We will use techniques including needle felting, hand and machine stitching, scrunching, pleating, painting, burning and more to create surfaces based on the rocks and geology around us. From these you will create a textured hanging or a sculpture. This course is designed to include the use of sewing machine stitch, but could be adjusted to include hand stitch only.
